Helping an Association of Independent Photographers To Boost Socio-political Awareness

GISED provided a donation to host a convention where prominent photographers from other countries are in- vited to speak about the stories behind their work whilst bringing greater awareness to the subjects portrayed in the photographs. The convention is for advanced as well as amateur photographers and young enthusiasts from challenged regions throughout Germany who may not have the means to attend it. Tickets are to be given away so they may experience it.

The speakers invited will touch on the subjects behind their photographs, some of which include immigrants, where their stories will be given visibility and a voice. The convention brings a philosophical approach to photography, where it intends to question the intentions behind taking photographs, and how the photographer’s values shape the photos. Photography touches many aspects of our lives, from the recent news to the instantaneous selfie. This convention takes its participant to the journey from selfie to self-awareness.
